POLICY REGARDING VIDEO TAPING OF PERFORMERS
It is not possible for DanceWorks to ensure that dancers are not being recorded. Please note that when agreeing to perform, dancers are accepting this reality. There will, however, be zero tolerance for flash photography as this puts the dancer at risk. Also no photography or recording where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy, eg. dressing rooms.
- Where is the Performance held?
- The Performance is held at the Charlie White Theatre in Sidney, BC. See Venues page for more information.
- Is there an admission charge to view the Performance?
- Yes, a donation of $6 will allow you to enjoy up to four hours of amazingly creative and unique dance.
- Where can I buy tickets for the Performance?
- Tickets are available at the Charlie White Theatre each day of the Performance.
- I’ve never been to the Festival before. What can I expect to see?
- After each group of 5 to 7 performances the dance professional will come to the stage to share their thoughts and ideas. These assessments are very interesting and informative for everyone who loves dance.
- The audience is welcome at any time throughout the session. There is always a few minutes between each performance when one may enter the auditorium.
- If you have come to see a particular performer always come at least half an hour before the posted time. In spite of detailed scheduling it is the nature of festivals that last minute changes do occur. That’s why we ask the dancers to be ready to perform up to half and hour before their posted time.
- Why do entrants have to choose a Dance Specialist?
- DanceWorks believes that dancers should make choices which serve them best. We have designed a festival with as much flexibility as possible.
- When filling in the Entry form one of the first choices you will make will be that of specialist. Each specialist has a particular area of expertise. The dancer should select the one who will provide the most valuable feedback for them.
- Why is there a space on the Entry form for Information?
- Another unique feature of DanceWorks Festival is the opportunity for the dancer to provide information to assist the Dance Specialist in providing a more informed evaluation. For example, some interpretive dances need a little explanation to be understood or sometimes there is something in the dancers history which needs to be known such as; the dancer is 16 years old but is returning to dance after being ill for 3 years.
- My dance is hard to define. It is a mixture of dance styles. Can I still perform it in the DanceWorks Festival?
- Absolutely! In the DanceWorks Festival we welcome and encourage unique and creative work. You will need to decide on which Dance Specialist you want to access your work. Sometimes dancers like to perform for more then one specialist and that’s okay too.
- Are there time limits?
- There are no time limits in the Performance Section.
- Will I be marked?
- No. There is no marking in the Performance Section. Specialists do offer a critique of each performance at the end of each group of dances.
